Dr. Lisa Elieson is a Texas native who grew up in North Texas. She’s been in practice for over 20 years and opened Hidden Lakes Counseling in 2013. She enjoys helping people through challenging times to make changes in their life within the framework of their individual goals, beliefs, and family systems. She holds degrees in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, and Marriage and Family Therapy. Her approach integrates Family Systems Theory with Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution Focused Models. Dr. Elieson believes counseling is a team process— and brings to the session some perspective and expertise on how life works, but recognizes that the client is the expert on their own life. She sees the client as an equal participant in their own counseling work, with the therapist as a guide. Her style as a counselor tends to be supportive and caring, but also assertive when identifying issues. Her goal for clients is for them to feel empowered as they chart their own course toward happiness, peace, and joy. Her broad experience supporting juvenile detention centers, a local women’s shelter, a private psychiatry practice, local pastors, and LDS Family Services has given her a unique understanding and appreciation of relationships, teens, women’s issues, and family dynamics. She wants people to know that, “You’re not alone and you can do anything with the right support. Teaming up with an experienced counselor can help you see the more complex dynamics affecting your relationships, and help you understand the latest research and methods for coping with difficulties that arise along the way.” In her free time, she’s traveling with family, seeking new cultural experiences, or reading a book about relationships. “Or even better—both! At any given time my desk is covered in books about relationships and human behavior. I love the study of people and human dynamics—it’s all so fascinating.”
