Ocean-based climate mitigation activities are an indispensable part of the solution to tackle climate change. Changing practices in ocean-based transport, ocean-based renewable energy projects, and fisheries as well as protecting coastal and marine ecosystems and carbon storage in seabeds can potentially close up to 21 percent of the emissions gap between the current policy baseline and the pathway to limit global heating to 1.5°C.
