A prototype tank nicknamed Little Willie rolls off the assembly line in England. Improvements were made to the original prototype and tanks eventually transformed military battlefields.
President William McKinley was shot at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York on September 6, which would kill him eight days later. This and other historic events are recapped by Russ Mitchell in this video clip from This Day In History. These events all occurring on September 6 include the declaration from Nazis that all Jews had to wear the yellow Star of David as identification. Also, former president Bill Clinton successfully underwent heart bypass surgery, and the tank, although not immediately successful, was invented.
