Lost Stocking is the title on this cute ceramic figurine of little boy with hat, umbrella, one shoe, and one bare foot from the artistry of Sister M I Innocentia (Berta Hummel), as moulded by Germany's Goebel ceramics works. Hummel figurines were first fashioned in 1934 after the paintings of Sister Maria Innocentia (nee Berta Hummel, 1909 to 1946) by sculptors Reingold Unger (1880 to 1974) and Arthur Moller (1886 to 1972) of W. Goebel Porzelanfabrik in Germany. Sister Maria Innocentia’s (her maiden name was Berta Hummel) Hummel figurines were first introduced to collectors in 1935 by the Goebel company. Goebel rendered these charming figurines from the sweet paintings of Sister Maria Innocentia which featured young children at play. Several of her artworks were meant to support issues that she personally sympathized with and championed, such as pacifism. The figurines enjoyed a high degree of collectibilty for many years. They were a favourite item for members of various armed forces stationed in Germany to send to their overseas homes. In 2008 production of Hummel figurines moved from the Goebel manufactory to the Hochster Porzellan Fabrik company. Sister Maria passed away in her early thirties. Her legacy of paintings and figurines continue to delight collectors around the world. With authentic Hummel marks upon the underside of the base including underglazed stamps TMK5 (dating ~1972 to 1979) and W. Germany as well as the imprinted numerals 374, 1963 and a partial 68.   About ~4.5 High. In excellent condition, with no discernible damage or wear.
