Big wave surfer Sebastian Steudtner of Germany rides a wave during a tow surfing session at Praia do Norte on February 15, 2020 in Nazaré, Portugal. Nazaré is a very popular surfing destination because of its very high breaking waves that form due to the presence of the underwater Nazaré Canyon that creates constructive interference between the incoming swell waves. The height of the waves permitted surfers to achieve numerous surfing records. On November 8 Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa surfed a big wave of 24.4 m and won the Quiksilver XXL Biggest Wave prize entering in the Guinness World Record for the biggest wave ever surfed. Large number of visitors gather to watch competitions or practice during the big waves season. Get premium, high resolution news photos at getty
