Hours and hours were spent in the Texas heat bringing Raven to its current form…and my jeans from those days have the blood, sweat, tears and laughter faded into them.
The wash on this new Raven Jean emulates the very chevrons, fades, whiskers - phone, Leatherman, key ring and all born of time spent to keep a classic rolling. No better way to honor the Raven than with the artistic talents of J. Younger.
ABOUT THE ARTIST & THE RAVENYounger is a Tlingit artist from Sitka, Alaska and we love her work. So, we asked her to design a Raven for us. We have incorporated that Raven into bandanas, t-shirts and now we are proud to share our latest garment that incorporates the Raven: The Raven Jean. It took us a while to get the jeans exactly how we wanted them perfection does take time!
About Raven : The Tlingit people of Southeast Alaska have two descent groups, call moieties. The two moieties are Raven (Yéil) and Eagle (Ch'aak'). I am Eagle. Throughout my jewelry making I’m drawn to the Raven designs, as my opposite. So I was honored to collaborate with Ginew on a new design for their apparel.
There are many stories of Raven in Northwest Coast culture. In Tlingit culture there are two different characters: one is the creator raven and the other is sly and conniving raven. ~ J. Younger
Salmonberry Weaving PatternYounger draws inspiration from traditional Tlingit formline designs, historic artifacts, spruce root basket weaving patterns and other inspirations. You'll notice something special on the back right pocket of this jean: weaving Salmonberry pattern. They are very abundant in southeast Alaska and it’s a staple in summer gathering.
