Heavy hex nuts have a larger measurement across the flats and are also slightly thicker than a regular hex nut. They are commonly deployed on structural or pressure vessel applications and also utilized on scraper blade applications for graders, loaders and other heavy equipment. Please note galvanized nuts have their threads cut deeper than an equivalent sized non-galvanized nut because the galvanized coating on the bolt increases its thread diameter and will cause a regular nut (plated or bare) to seize as it is being threaded onto the galvanized bolt.
