The school was built in 1941 and served 300 students at that time. In 1950, the west wing was dedicated and the school became a junior high with grades 7, 8 and 9. Because of growth and a changing curriculum, a third addition was added to the building in 1962. Several adjustments have been made to the school boundaries over the years to accommodate the growth in population throughout the area. The ninth grade feeds into Fremont High School. The staff at Wahlquist includes 48 certified employees and 26 full- or part-time secretaries, para-professionals, cooks and custodians. Because of our rural setting, most students (approximately 95%) are bused to and from WJHS each day. Students have access to a traditional junior high school curriculum, guided by the Utah State Core. A magnet program in pre-engineering and several honors and remedial courses are also offered to meet individual student needs. Competitive athletic programs are available for boys and girls.
